I've been a bad blogger this past summer. Let me bring you up to speed....

The house flooded - see prior posts. We've finally got our house back in order - new carpet, new wood floors, new paint, and I'm almost done putting everything back where it goes. The joys of packing up like your moving - but not moving is fun - NOT!!!

The summer has been so hot - so I'm thankful that clients have understood and allowed me to schedule their sessions in September and October. Let me tell ya - I'm ready to get past this heat!

As the title says - I've GONE GREEN! Since I had some downtime this summer, I've evalutated my time commitments - to my family - to my full-time job - and to my photography clients. I need a balanced life and have decided to scrap my other portrait collections and introduce a digital collection - The Edwards Collection. I'm so excited.

The Edwards Collection is completely digital and includes a media disc of high-resolution digital images (both color & black and white) from the portrait session with authorization for unlimited personal use. Low-resolution images, which are perfect for web and email), are also included. Of course, I'm well known for my signature linen finish on all portraits - don't worry people - The Edwards Collection offers a 25% discount on ala carte prints and other products. Of course, you know me, I'll throw in a few suprises here and there!

I've been hard at work designing new holiday cards too - as well as new albums for family sessions, senior sessions, and weddings too! Keep checking in - I'm ramping up for another 30 day blog challenge soon!

Why So Serious?

That's one of the taglines from the new Batman movie. My son was 4 yo when the VERY first Batman movie (the one with Michael Keaton) first came out - it was also the VERY first movie I ever took him to see. He was SO excited when they resurrected the movie franchise. Personally, I am more fond of Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne!!!

Anyway - my son and his friend came just a short while ago to pick something up and would be on their way. I could hear my daughter laughing hysterically and naturally, I had to investigate. I guess you will be able to tell by the snapshots that my son and his friend are VERY eager to go to the midnight showing tonight!

Have fun guys! I still think y'all are big dorks!

COME HOME QUICK! THE HOUSE IS FLOODING!

So, that's the text message I received on Monday from my son. THANK GOODNESS he was home!!!!! He woke up to the sound of someone running the shower, however, he was the only one home so he got up to investigate. He put is foot down and felt the "squish" - the carpeting in his room was soaked! He went to the bathroom and saw the flood - it was coming from behind the toilet - water spraying everywhere. The hall way was soaked. The entrance of my office was soaked. The bathroom had a few inches of water. He managed to get the water turned off and went downstairs - where water was gushing from the vents in our kitchen - water EVERYWHERE! It was on the kitchen floor, the dining room floor, the living room floor and even in our pantry! OMG - it's the great flood of 2008!

I called my friend Erika Herman because she owns Cornerstone ChemDry - she sent over a crew to help me with the water extraction - she saved the day!!!

My hubby wanted to buy a Harley. I told him that he could - IF - he sold the boat and IF we could get a pool. I figured he wouldn't go for it - he loves the boat so much. Imagine my suprise when he came home with a Harley & started cleaning up the boat. So, looks like we'll be getting a pool! We decided to wait until his truck is paid off - which will be soon. She's Got Her "G"!!!

She's got her G - she's now a Groschke!!!! A few weeks ago - I had the absolute honor to photograph the wedding of Kim Viguers and John Groschke. They're such a cute cute couple and are so stinking fun to be around. Weddings usually take me every bit of 4 to 6 weeks to do the processing. I created a slide show for them last weekend because they were just so anxious to see some of the images. It was just a quick draft slideshow, but I knew it would make her mother cry buckets! She called and reported to me that indeed - she did!

Anyway - about the couple. They met at Stephen F. Austin and now live in Houston, Texas. Some fun facts about the couple.....

John tore his ACL over Christmas vacation.....it was touch and go if he'd be able to walk at the wedding!

Judy, the mom, created & planned Kim's wedding since she was back in Houston taking care of John!
Mark, on of Kim's dads, had surgery about a month before the wedding, and had more surgery scheduled a week or so later!
I sprained my ankle the Tuesday before the wedding & didn't tell anyone - I was too afraid to freak out Judy! I had to deliver some adorable 3x3 mini-albums for the guests & walked in pain so she wouldn't notice.
My 2nd Shooter, Rich, is an amature storm chaser - he had the weather radar on in the back room - if he saw movement - he would have been "otta there"

The weather was fantastic (sorry Richie) - since it was outdoors everyone feared rain - we felt minor sprinkles and then everything just fell into place.

The first 3 pictures you see are so very special - they are actual captures of when John and Kim saw each other for the first time - makes me cry just to see Kim's expression!

Such a BEE-YOU-TEE-FUL Bride!!! I wish I had a camera on Luke (the dad) just so I could see his face in this image - I bet there were tears!

Lovey-Dovey - Kiss Kiss!

Yes, John, I think this was my absolute favorite picture of you of the night! You've married into one spirited - fun-loving family!!! Debbie (the bride's other mom) gave me the heads up this would happen - so I was ready! I can't wait to hear what you do to get them back!

Meet Jessica

She looks like a young Jessica Alba to me. A natural beauty - that's for sure. We had a great time at the Dallas Aboretum - as always - so many places to check out. I was a bit worried at first because it was also Dallas Blooms - which is always so busy! However, the weather worked with us. It was overcast and windy - but we worked with it and got some nice imags! Right when we finished - the sun came out and so did the people! Finished in the nick of time!

Meet Heather

Meet Heather – a spunky and adorable 2008 Senior! The azaleas were in FULL BLOOM on our visit to Prather Park. Oh my – the colors just POPPED! I think we spent a little over an hour at the park – there were just so many fun places to go. We walked – took some shots – then walked some more – took some shots – etc! There just isn't too many spots at Prather Park that are bad. We ventured over to the other side of the park, and were just awestruck over the azaleas on one of the "fancy" house's gates. So – you know me – we took a few shots and RAN! Ok, we really didn't run – but we did do those shots quickly. Once we got to the other side of the park, I surprised Heather – we took some more shots on one of my favorite ledges. I didn't tell her how high up it was. She was a great sport and we worked with it.

Meet Daniel – he is my handsome 21-yo son (and single) – works full time and also goes to school. This past weekend, I did a mini-shoot for him. He's going to be in a national magazine for Airsoft. What's Airsoft? It's like Paintball – but with soft BBs. Don't let the images fool ya – he's a sweetie. For those of you that do not know, Daniel was born without a tibia in his left leg. We're not too sure what happened, but God blessed us with him. When he was about 1 yo – he had his leg amputated at the knee. He was a patient of Scottish Rite until he turned 18yo. His disability did NOT hold him back. As a child – he played peewee football for the Vikings (his team was City Champs!) and he also played baseball. He swam, road his bicycle, and even had a mini-bike. During high school, Daniel rose in the ranks at the ROTC for Mesquite High School – even became the lead cadet of all MISD. Pretty impressive huh? Anyway, the magazine decided to feature a story about Daniel and we needed some good shots. Can you believe it? I haven't taken any professional pictures of my son in quite a long time!

Sabbatical is over!

As most of you know - I normally take the winter months off. It's been nice to have the time off, but now I'm ready to get busy!

My family and I had a wonderful Christmas. It was cold - but nice never-the-less.

I had great intentions to send out Christmas cards - but that never happened. Then I had a great idea to send out Happy New Year cards again this year, but never got around to mailing them out. Truth be told - I ordered them and then forgot about them. I put them up in my office and then lost track of them when I reorganized. I found them the other day and thought it was just too late to send out. I ended up throwing them away.

Here's what they looked like -

Just a word of caution - Daniel is helping me again this year. He's officially my intern (aka free labor). He's almost through with this Graphic's Art degree and I can't wait to see what he comes up with this year. He's designing new ANNOUNCEMENTS (GRADS, BABY, WEDDING, ETC) as well as new business cards. I'm in dire need of new cards. I've been using the same design for such a long time and I really need to update.

Daniel will also be updating my blog and myspace pages. We had a great contest last year, and we plan on doing it again. The contest was "Blog for 30 days" - and I'm tasking Daniel with that. Ha - it was hard enough for me to do it - we'll see how he does.

I know I said I was on "sabbatical", but I did manage to do a few sessions. In January, I went to Terrell and photographed about 125 kids in the Upwards Basketball program. I do that every year and it's so much fun. I just love those kids - watching them grow. I also did a few bridal sessions as well as a new baby! You know how I love new babies!!!!

I would share the bridals - but I can't - not until they're married!

This weekend, I'm shooting Daniel. He's going to be in a magazine for Air Soft. I'll let him post the details. I'm also shooting a cute couple - enagement session - oooooh - that one is close to my heart too. It's my little brother!

Oh my oh my - time as flown. What a whirlwind this year has been!!!

I've been pretty busy with my new "day" job, and things have been somewhat quiet in photography land. I'm taking this time to renew and revamp 2008 marketing. I've also decided to explore my homeland - yes, my homeland. For those of you that don't know - I'm a native Texan. I've decided that I'm going to find Texas Culture - THE REAL TEXAS. I've even created a new blog - http://www.realtexas.blogspot.com/ - not much on it yet. I'm mapping out locations and timing this week. I have many fun things planned.

As many of you know - I usually take the winter months off - however, I do have the Terrell, Texas, annual baseketball league shoot coming up. Those kids are just too fun!!! Oh, and of course, I'm always available for new babies!!!

Lighting Workshop

Hi - it's been a bit since I last updated. This month has been CrAzY - it was my 23rd anniversary. I'm still "head over heals" in LOVE with my husband. He's my best friend and makes the BEST cream gravy in the world. My little girl also celebrated her 9th birthday, and of course, there was Thanksgiving. Wow - so much going on. I managed to fit in a workshop on lighting. Let me just say - I am thrilled with all I learned. I cannot wait to apply the new techniques I learned to future brides, seniors, and anyone who'll get in front of my camera!!

Location - The Cotton Mill in McKinney, Texas. I wish it were just a bit closer because I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to do more sessions out there. The place was an old Cotton Mill - renovated of course. I could spend all day there - just shooting the location. It was great. I still have many images to process from the workshop and will post some of the locations.

Ok - let's just put it right out there - GIRLS RULE! I went to Bre's Volleyball game a few weeks ago, and took some pictures for fun. Can you believe this - I forgot all about them! Anyway - over the weekend I played around with the images - took over 150! These girls are awesome. They really know how to work together as a team and my goodness - they sure can hit that ball. Howdy Folks!

Yesterday, my family and I spent the day at the State Fair of Texas. O-M-G - there were so many people there. We got there early in the morning - ok - around noon, and first thing was first - we had to have the famous Corny Dog. YUMMY!!! We sat just outside the Cotton Bowl and enjoyed our manditory treat. Of course, we spent most of the day (and money) on food. Funnel cakes, cotton candy, turkey legs, ice cream, etc. We filled up on junk food.

We didn't ride any rides out there or play any of the games on the Midway - it just isn't out thing. I don't trust the rides OR the carney's out there. I'm sure they're regulated and what not - but it's better to go with your instinct - and our instincts tell us not to throw our money away, Never the less - we do enjoy walking through the Midway. After yesterday, I don't think I want to anymore. O-M-G - there were so many people, strollers, and those carts - they added to the traffic and kept rolling over my feet! Note to self - don't wear cute flip flops to the fair.

I took my little "point and shoot" camera with me so that I could scrap about our day of fun later - and of course - blog for those to see.

I just love babies - everything about them. I love the way the smell. I love how soft their skin is. I love how peaceful they look when they're sleeping. I even love to hear them cry - they sound like little lambs.

Where has the time gone?

Sorry that I have been MIA lately. There for awhile I was posting daily, and then - zippo! nadda! Well, to catch you up - I got a new full-time job a few weeks ago. The sister company of the company that laid me off hired me. So, I've been super busy with that. I'm trying to wrap my arms around the new position, and I'm really enjoying it so far. It's very challenging. I will be coordinating the new Cisco VoIP phone solution in several locations. Boy - I'm so excited about that.

As far as photography goes - I will continue to do it on the side - so nothing changes there. I've got several weddings lined up. I just cannot tell you all how excited I am about those weddings. I have a few family sessions scheduled for October, and I think I will have a limited Christmas Photo Op this month as well. I will send out a newsletter w/the details in the next few days.

Game Over Man!

Today is the last day of my blogger challenge. I missed posting 3 times, and was caught twice! It was so much fun, and challenging for me too! It's hard to think of things to talk about.

Side note - I was offered a new job today, so starting Monday (on my birthday) I will return to the workforce. I never even had a chance to collect unemployment. That's fine with me though - I'd much rather be working. Don't worry - I'm still doing my photography business on the side - available for weekends only. So nothing has changed there.

Geckos Need to Pay Rent!

I just can't believe how many geckos have invaded my home. Yes, I know they're harmless. Yes, I know they eat bugs & spiders. Yes, I know they're more afraid of me than I am of them. However, they are all over my house - on the outside and inside. It's freaky watching TV and you see something dart across the floor - or across the wall - or in the case below - on the ceiling!

One night, my husband threw one outside, and then 5 more came in the house! I'm serious! For the record, it's very true - they will drop their tail when scared. It's also very true that their tails still wiggle after they're "detached". It's also very true that a wife will scream and jump 10 feet in the air when her husband throws the detatched wiggly tail at her! It's a fact that husbands have to sleep on the couch afterwards.

Simple Pleasures

Time is flying and today I took a little time to enjoy myself. I did something totally amazing and it really energized me. You'll never guess what I did. I took a long walk w/my dog Ripley. We walked the entire neighborhood. Ok, I know what you're thinking - geez girl - all you did was walk the dog. I know that's all I did - but I really took the time to notice my neighborhood - the sounds - the smells - the smiles. I had no idea so many people in our 'hood were home during the day - so much activity. I also had no idea how many stinking gnats are around - geez louise!

During my walk I thought about "Simple Pleasures" - these are things that bring a smile to your face. Here are a few of mine.....

My daughter's laughter - her giggles are hysterical
My son's humor - he'll make you giggle!
My husband's kindness - it's just in his nature to be so stinking sweet

Ok - I think every wife/mother can say the same things as me. Here are some more.....

I love it when a friend Wendy calls me just to "chit-chat"
I love it when a butterfly lands on me
I love it when I get a front row parking spot at Target (well, anywhere)
It totally makes my day when I find a forgotten $5 bill in my back pocket
I get excited when my clients call to tell me how much they love their portraits

Another Blast from the Past!

Again - I was going through my files and came across this client. She played a HUGE roll in my portrait party business. Though I really don't do them that often anymore, I always have a soft spot for my hostesses. I actually miss doing them. I've been thinking of doing more "Limited Edition" type sessions in 2008 - something that will be fun for people to bring their kids to, and definitely something fun for the kids!!!

The day is a bit brighter

Today I heard some news that really lifted my spirits. Let's just say Karma rocks! Anyway - it's been a few days since I posted any meaningful tips, and thought I'd share a few. Let's talk about children.......

1) You have to engage them. Yeah, right. I know - easier said than done. Beleive me - I know. My children run from me when I get the camera out, but one thing I found with digital photography - they like looking at the immediate results. Actually, some of your children run from me too. Some things I do to get children to look at me while photographing them is talking to them on THEIR level. Yes, I know I'm short, but I'm still taller than them! I get down on my knees and just play. Ask them about their favorite character, their favorite toy, if their daddy has stinky feet!

2) You have to compose your shot! Ever hear of the rule of 3rds? Basically, its the "tic-tac-toe" grid. All your photograhs should be properly presented on the grid. Everywhere the lines meet - so should your subject. If it's properly centered (the the middle square) - well - it's boring!

3) Natural light when you can!!! Flash is too strong if not used properly. The best times of the day happen to be early morning and later afternoon.

10 Reasons Why To Wear Shoes In Your Backyard

Happy Saturday everyone. I was a productive gal today. I totally cleaned out my bathroom - serious cleaining - as in - throwing out all expired meds, under cabinets, etc.

My husband Michael spent the afternoon cleaning up the backyard - doing necessary yardwork since our yard guy never showed up.

So, once I was done w/my "woman's" work - I decided to sit on the patio and just enjoy the evening. I also walked out into our backyard (we have a really big backyard - maybe 1/4 acre). I was barefoot and decided I'd share with you all why it is important to wear shoes when walking in the backyard.

I stepped on a snake. I have no idea what kind it was. I'm pretty sure it was just a harmless grass snake, but honestly, when you're barefoot and you step on a snake - it doesn't really matter! I'm thankful it didn't bite me. I ran into the house to get my camera, but Michael killed it and tossed it over the fence. Don't worry - not the neighbor's - we have a HUGE field at the end of our property.

BLAST......From the Past!

I was thinking today about how long I've been in business. I started with my good friend Vicki, but we mainly did sports pictures. You know - action shots and team portraits. Loved doing that, but I also loved interacting more one-on-one with my clients. Unfortunatetly, you just can't do that during team photo shoots.

I have some clients have have really "stuck" with me. They've been with me from the very beginning - and I do mean - very beginning. So, if they contact me by 6:00pm tomorrow (09/14/07) - they will recieve a FREE photo session at the location of their choice.

Thanks for all the inquiries - but the jetskiis are sold. I'm so sad. They were absolutely so much fun. I regret that I didn't get any pictures of the family riding them around the lake.

So - here's your task today - hug your kids, hug your pets, and hug your significant other. Then - take some fun pictures of them. Don't worry about composition. Don't worry about red-eye flash look.

It's fun to have the memories, but more endearing if you have pictures of them too. Years and years from now, you won't care how much you weighed - what outfit you were wearing - that your make up wasn't the best - what will matter is the memories you built. Pictures are key to keep those memories close at hand.

What to bring to your session!

Ok - yesterday I posted clothing tips, now let's talk about props. Those that know me, know I don't supply them. Instead, I encourage my clients to bring their own. Ok, so what do you bring? It's important to bring anything that means something to you or your children.

For babies - favorite blankets, stuffed animals, keepsake items: girls - bracelets, rings, necklaces; boys - manly things like footballs, toy trucks, etc. Some of my favorite images are of babies wearing "grown up" items - mommy's pearls, mommy's hat, daddy's hat, etc. If mommy or daddy is a fireman/cop/sports - anyone that wears a uniform - babies look absolutely ADORABLE wearing their parent's uniforms. Seriously!!! At one session, I brought along finger paints for this little cutie to paint her mommy's belly. SWEET!

For teens/seniors - bring sports equipment, band equipment, skate board, skiis, roller blades, dancing unififorms, etc. It's fun and it is a fun part of their life. Think about it - how many hours do you spend shuffling the kids to dance lessons, baseball practice, gymnastics, etc?

For families - I don't really care for family props, but sometimes they work out - such as a picnic blanket or the family pet!

Ok - that's actually a picture of a wedding I did last year - oops - I couldn't find another image where families used props - but I think you get the idea.

Clothing Tips

My motto in clothing is this: simple goes a long way! I like to keep the focus on the subject; therefore, simple clothing choices are best for creating timeless portraits.

Family photographs are special, a legacy of whom your family was for future generations
to enjoy. Clothing choices are just as important for family sessions, as other sessions. I
highly suggest clothing for each family member that has the same tone, not necessarily
the same color. Please be wary of stripes, plaid, words and logos on your family's
clothing. These things can be a distraction from your beautiful family. Oh, and bare feet
are great for family sessions too!

For children/young teens - I suggest loose fitting solid colors, avoiding busy patterns or logos/words. Blue's Clues is cute for playtime, but can look out of place for your child's portraits. Jeans, overalls, sun/slip dresses; khakis are classics and photograph well. I especially like boys in jeans and plain tees, and girls in simple sundresses; weather permitting of course.

Hats can also be very effective; as well as other accessories such as scarves or funky belts. If children are being photographed together, clothes that are similar in style give a more coordinated look. Bare feet are especially fun, and kids love it too. If shoes are preferred, please make sure they are in good shape, and not scuffed. Consider dressing in the color white sparingly, for this color often reflects light strongly.

Bare skin is my favorites on newborns and babies. You may have other clothes to put on
baby, but keep in mind; baby may get grouchy when there are too many clothing
changes. Diaper covers are a great idea too!

Friday Night Lights!

I had a wonderful time watching the game last night. Plano East and Mesquite High School - battle on - Those darn Wildcats (or whatever you call them) won the game, but the Skeeters gave them a fight.

The boys looked adorable in their uniforms, the girls cheered their hearts out and kicked high, and the Drum Line - ohhhhhhhh - how I love the Drum Line. I personally think they should be on the sidelines throughout all games - I think they really helped the spirt!!!

I'm so excited! Tonight I will be at the Mesquite High School game - taking action shots - from the sidelines! Did you hear that right? FROM THE SIDELINES!!!!!!

I love football and love high school football even more. Those boys play for the love of the game! I think it will be great fun - I've never had the opportunity to take action shots like this before.

I'm also excited to hear the band play and watch the Drill Team work their stuff! A few of my favorite clients last year (Lauren Dixon and Samatha Gaddis) were both All-Stars.

So today I had some brain storms - what business ideas can I come up with. I think I came up with some doozies! I'm working on the details now, and have a few manufactures to check out - but I THINK I'm up to something pretty unique. Ok - I know what you're thinking - why isn't she telling us. WEll - basically - it's too soon. I really need to iron out the details and put things to plan.

Speaking of plans - during my downtime - I am writing a business plan. Wow - can you believe I haven't had one since I've been in business? Pretty silly of me. Anyway - I'm going to have to get busy on that. I'd really like to have it done by the end of the week - as well as finish my new pricing menu.

So you see - even though I may have been laid off, I am putting my time to good use. If you know me - you know I can't sit still. In the mornings - I network and try to get some things moving to find a new day job, and in the afternoons - I'm a photography marketing fool!

For those of you that don't know - I'm a native Texan. Not only that - I was born and raised in Dallas. So natually, and it should be quite obvious, I'm a Dallas Cowboy Fan. Yes, it was manitory in our house & watching the game was very serious and intense. In fact, my father was once so mad at a call - he broke the television set.

My dad has had season tickets to Cowboy Stadium since they built it (Yes, for those of you not native to Dallas - that is what we call it - COWBOY STADIUM). Every year, my brothers and I put in our dibs for the tickets we want. I get such joy taking friends to the games with me - the seats are awesome and the people that sit around dad are very sweet.

Up until this year, I had never (yes, you read that right) never been to a tailgate party. OH MY GOODNESS - I had NO idea what I had been missing! I think the tailgate party was more fun than the game!!! The food awesome and everyone just mingled into other TGPs - LOVED IT!!!!!!

What an easy day! I woke up late and did a little shopping. Ok - I also cleaned up the house and finished the laundry - including putting it all away!

I also updated my website a bit by uploading some recent wedding images. On July 7, 2007, I second shot for an amazing photographer in Oklahoma. The bride and groom were so nice and so in LOVE!!! I just adore shooting weddings. The fun part of being a 2nd shooter is that there is very little pressure. Here are some of my favorite images from the 7-7-7 wedding!

I have an amazing photographer friend (very young too) up in Mass - right outside Boston. Well apparentely, she's been playing a game of TAG with a few other photographers, and now I'm it! Funny - now I have to tell 8 things that most people don't know about me, and then tag 8 more photographers.

This is hard - I have to think of 8 things about myself now.......

1) I cannot stand to have ANYTHING under my bed.
2) I once did a back-flip off my mother's coffee table.....and spent the rest of the evening in the ER when I cracked my head open. I can still feel the scar under my scalp & sometimes get headaches there.
3) I know how to salom ski - my husband wouldn't let me get back in the boat until I got up.
4) I love to fish - but I HATE to take the fish off the hook. So, I act scared so my husband will take it off for me.
5) I've called my dad "Poops" since I was a little girl.
6) One of my favorite memories is shagging golf balls for my grandfather - he was hard of hearing. So, when we went places - I would always yell at him so he could hear me. Don't you know that stores/restaurants hated me.
7) I'm extremely organized - everything has a place and there is a place for everything.
8) I love to go shopping. I can spend hours in the mall and not buy a single thing.

Today was another great day. I have several recruiters working for me and things are really looking great. I've received several emails urging me to go full-time w/my photography business. I can't tell you how much I would LOVE to do that, but unfortunately, my severance package didn't allow me much of a runway - so I have to find a job pretty soon. I don't want to have to dip into my savings account if I don't have to. On a fun note though - I am advertising in a few local school sports programs. I've even been invited by the Skeeters (MHS) to shoot a few home games! That will be fun. I get a field pass and everything - very official!

So, if you've been following my blog, you know that I was laid off on Monday. I was "shocked" on Monday, and was "Mopey" on Tuesday. However, today, Wednesday, I look at it as a blessing. I updated my resume, contacted a few recruiters, have a few appointments already lined up, and several leads. I was touched that so many people offered to help me with my resume (it was quite dusty) and went out of their way to make calls on my behalf. Can you believe that? I love my friends! To top it all off - I received BEE-YOU-TEE-FUL flowers from a "Secret Somebody" - THANK YOU - they really made my day. Mercy me - talk about timing.

Once I got the flowers - things just fell into perspective. It was just a job. I can get another one. The most important things in my life are my family. The love of my husband. When he hugs me - all my problems just just melt away. When I hear my daughter laugh - I want to laugh with her because her giggles are so contageous. I wish I could bottle them up to use later when I'm feeling sad. When I see my son smile - I just know he's got some funny joke he's about to tell me. They are what is most important in my life. I'm so blessed.

Today was my Mopey day

So today I decided that it would be my mopey day. I figured after 7 years with one company, I deserved one day to be sad about leaving it. I didn't do much - proofed a few sessions - and took a nap. On top of everything that's been going on this week - I'm sick. I may need to go to the Dr - not sure what's wrong - nagging cough and no voice. It's probably allergies.

Today I also participated in a Fantacy Football Draft. I've never played before so this will be exciting. I forgot that the draft started at 7pm - and by the time I remembered - the computer picked for me. I think I got some good players.

I wanted to give a shout out to all my friends at BP - thanks for all your emails and IMs - they've all meant so much - I'll miss you all.

Last week I got treated to a Repechage facial. My friend Pam, who is an awesome stylist by the way, decided to practice a new facial technique on me. Basically, she gave my skin a 2nd change - nourish and hydrate - both of which is something my face despirately needs!

This was the first time I ever had a facial done before, and I'll tell you one thing - it won't be my last either ! It was heaven.

Pam set the mood by setting up very relaxing music. It was heaven just to lay there - I could feel the stress lifting already. She applied a few layers of Paraffin. It was hot at first, but then it wasn't too bad. Soon it felt really nice. While the Parrifin was setting, she have my hands a "hot stone" massage - talk about feeling a little Zen!!!!

HSM2

Chances are, if you have a little girl (maybe boy too), that is between 5 and 16, you know what HSM2 stands for. For those of you that dont - High School Musical 2. Oh my goodness - it's about all we hear about in the house from Cameron. I still haven't seen the original HSM. From my undertanding - it's the "new" Grease. AS IF!!!

Anyway - earlier this year, I took Cameron to see HSM at American Airlines Center. We styled it up too - we were in a suite!

Walking In LA

So earlier this year, I had to go on a business trip to Los Angeles. I had never been there before. On one of our free days, we did the tourist stuff - drove around Hollywood. Wow - TV just doesn't do it justice. During the trip, I only saw 2 movie stars. You'd never guess in a million years who - so I'll just tell ya. Ted Danson and his wife Mary Steenburgeon (sp?). He's older looking than I thought (and tall), and she's adorable. I was actually walking back to my table when I noticed them. I did a double take because they looked familiar and I didn't know why. LOL - I'm sure they get that alot. You know - now that I think of it - I also saw Kat Von D (for those Miami and LA Ink fans). Funny - it was when I was leaving the restaurant that I saw Ted Danson. At first I thought "that pretty girl sure does have on an ugly shirt" - then I realized it was tattoos! She's much shorter than she appears on TV (ok, she's still taller than me!). I also "think" I saw Steven Segal on Rodeo Drive, but I'm not totally sure it was him. So, I'll count it anyway!

Later that night we went to Grauman's Chinese Theater. It was fun putting my hands/feet in the star's hand/foot prints. For the record, I thought John Wayne's "boot-prints" would be much larger. Other observations - Marilyn Monroe had man hands & Betty Grable and I share the same shoe size. In fact, Debbie Reynolds & I do too!

During our day trip, we took a drive down Mulholland Drive (pictured below) and the scenery was breath-taking. it was a bit "smoggy", but what else can you expect in LA, right?

We also went to have a few drinks at the Beverly Hills Hotel. Wow - it was cool. We drove around Sunset Blvd (a shot of a Beverly Hills Cop is also below!). Sunset BLVD - is awesome. Night-clubs everywhere. It where all the action is. Drove my Whiskey-A-Go-Go (any Doors fans?), the Viper Room (River Phoenix fans?), and continued our drive until we dead-ended to the Pacific Ocean. Yep - Drove along the PCH and saw the Santa Monica Pier.......then got lost on the highway!

Fun Jetskis

Its a sad time - we decided to sell our jet skis. We absolutely love them and they are so much fun. I believe we've been to the lake every weekend this summer just to ride them. Unfortunately, we just don't have the space to keep them anymore. I won't bore you with the details, but storage for a boat and jet skiis is expensive. Something had to go and Michael wants to keep the boat. You know how he loves to fish, and I'm not giving up my spot in the garage!!!

We had our 2nd Annual Volleyball & Fish Fry last weekend. Would you believe I didn't take 1 shot? That's right - I never even picked up my camera. However, my assistant Heidi was there to save the day. Once she gives me the pix - I'll upload. We had so much fish - caught by my husband, and our friends Blane Waynes, Rick Waynes, and Kevin Gatlin. In fact, once everyone left for the night, and when I was putting away all the left-overs - I found another HUGE pan of fish we didn't fry. Eeek - guess what I had for dinner the next day? LOL

Oh my - the day is here and Samantha will be graduating. I'm so proud of her!!!!!

She started the year a my Senior Models and did a great job for me (or should I say her mother!). She had her Debutante portraits through me, and her mother wanted another set of senior portraits made. When I reviewed her images through the year, you could really see how much she's changed. She's beautiful inside and out.

Hi Y'all! It's been awhile since I posted. As usual, I normally take off the winter months. Let's face it - it's not fun to take pictures outdoors when it's cold. In Texas, you just never know from one minute to the next what the weather will do. Technically I did have a session this past winter. For the 2nd year in a row, Terrell's Upwards' Basketball league invited me to be their team photographer. They area always fun and I look forwards to seeing them again in 2008!

So, to catch y'all up, I've been busy during my off-season preparing for 2007. I've been attending workshops, conventions, and tradeshows. I have exciting new products this year, and will be posting samples once I receive my orders.

I am introducing a new line of albums. They include new/vibrant colors, personalized book jackets, and new wallet albums.

My son Daniel will be my intern this spring/summer. He's very close to graduating w/his Graphic Arts Associate Degree and I'm looking forward to seeing what he comes up

Meet Samantha. This year she's a senior and full of personality. After graduation, she's hoping to go to Texas Tech. They'll be lucky to have her. We had a great time at the Dallas Arboretum, and I don't believe I've ever heard a senior giggle like she does. Wow - I didn't realize how quickly time has passed since I last updated the blog. Shame on me. Now that my daughter is back in school, it seems like I don't any extra time. Why is that I wonder? Oh yeah - those darn school activities!! Reading, homework, gymnastics, etc. Also, since summer is over, I've been pretty busy playing with my camera - Oops - I mean working. Ok - I admit it - I love doing photography because it allows me time to get to know my camera - play with my subjects - and really have fun.

I know I've been writing about a new website, and again, I just haven't had much time to work on it. Believe me - it will be awesome. I'm so excited.

Do You Bling?
I'm happy to announce that I have worked out everything with my jewelry vendor and I'm so pleased! I'm back to selling it full-force! I will be relisting it on my site.

Price Increase?
No - I changed my mind. I'm going to push any increases back to 2007. However, I've decided to do away with frames....for now. I've been using a framer from the internet, & I'd really like to use someone locally instead. So, I'm scanning the metroplex for some good-quality framers.

New Website?
Yes, but not yet. It's coming - I promise. I've just been neglecting updating images/rotating images/etc. I'm looking into new designs and new music too. One of these days......you'll see!

Portrait Parties?
I'm scaling the parties back to certain parts of the year. I'd really like to incorporate the parties with my Mother's Day Madness and Holiday Hop Photo Op events. These events are huge! I'm going to have a HHPO in October, and need a hostess - interested? The event will be outdoors & a location decided on soon. I'm scouting a few locations.

{ShelleyStyle} Gallery?
They are already designed, named, and now I need to plug in the images. Don't be suprised if I use your portrait session for a gallery collection!!!

Isn't she simply gorgeous? Omega and I had alot of fun, and she let me try new poses and lighting techniques. It was fun to just play, and it's easy to lose track of time when your client is having fun too.

Omega was right at 8 months pregnant for our session.

I took this image last summer at Chandler's Landing in Rockwall, Texas. It was so hot and it was so fun. Always an awesome show out there.

Revamping!

This summer I am revamping. I'm going to be using a new logo, major updates to my site (or maybe create a new one), and revising my pricing structure (don't worry - no major suprises - just adjusting because of the rising gas costs). I will also be introducing {shelleystyle} Gallery Collections! Since it's raining this weekend, I hope to post some samples.

I looked high and low and found a great quality product. I invested in the kit and was so pleased when it arrived. I accepted my first orders, and found out my gal moved to England!! That in itself isn't bad, but it's not what I was expecting. I was never informed that this was the plan, and a little upset that I had to follow-up on an order to find out.

For now, I don't plan to add jewelry back into my products offered. However, If you know of any TEXAS based jewelry artists - please link me up!!!

Where's Shelley?

Wow - I've been super busy this past month. A few weeks ago, my husband and I found a GREAT house. We fell in L-O-V-E with it. It's just north of Po-dunk and just east of Boon-docks. Ever hear of Royce City? Oh my goodness - it's so far - Hunt County to be exact. Though we loved the house, we ran the numbers and decided to wait.

I'm not a huge basketball fan - but I became hooked when the Mavricks made the playoffs. I went with my friend (and trusty assistant) Wendy to a game against the San Antonio Spurs. I think I was more excited to see one of the stars of my favorite TV show - Desperate Housewives - Eva Longoria, aka Gabrielle Solis (she's in the cute brown pant suit in the middle of the image). I took alot of pictures. Wendy told me to stop "photo-stalking". Yes, I'm now a member of the paparazzi.

So, what all does this have to do with the photography business? Nothing - just spending needed time with my family and friends. I've had a super busy year, and I decided to take off the month of June. I do have some sessions scheduled in July. As everyone knows - I don't work in August - too darn hot; however, I'm taking appointments now for September and October.

This sweet little girl was at a recent "Home Portrait Party". She is going to have a little brother. She's in a great mood because she just got finished painting her mommy's tummy. The effect you see here is called "Grandma's Attic". It's one of my favorite enhancements...Not quite a black and white and not quite color. Just the perfect mix of both.

Breathing Room

I've had a few weekends off, and I'm so glad. Working full-time and doing photography on the side sometimes takes its toll. However, you know me, I can't sit still. This past weekend, my husband and I hosted our 1st Annual Fish Fry and Volleyball Tournament. Naturally, it rained on us - but it didn't effect the tournament. Once it stopped raining, we played. I was on the winning team - which happened to be on the muddy side of the net. My hands/wrists are so brused too!

I'm glad about a few things though - good friends and good food! I'm also very glad that I was able to get a few snapshots of the people that help me out.

Meet my team!

This is Heidi Holguin. Not only does she second shoot for me, but she's also a fun buddy to go on "photo safaris".

This is Bre Waynes. I can count on her! She's so bee-you-tee-ful and very sweet.

Here's Kyle (that's his pretty girlfriend in the back). Yes, I know, he's very handsome. He's also featured in my senior marketing material. However, he's really very helpful at shoots. We always have a great time & he's great w/putting shy clients at ease.

There's Wendy (on the left, brown shirt). Pam is in the blue shirt on the right. Wendy is such a great help - especially at big team shoots. She helps client's fill out their paperwork and keeps the money straight.

Pam doesn't work for me, but she is my hairdresser. I think she's great!!!!

Well, that's all for this week. I'm doing a portrait party this weekend and I'm really looking forward to it.

Last night, after the sun set for the evening, our dogs were acting strange. They were sitting in the middle of the backyard....staring at something. We called them, but they wouldn't move. We saw the "weird" blob looking thing, but just thought it was their squeeky toy. However, squeeky toys don't move unassisted. We walked over to it and it was the biggest frog we've ever seen. It was bigger than my foot and three times as wide. Yes, I know what you're thinking - I have small feet. However, how many size 5 frogs have you seen?

Introducing Zach! We had a great time at the Arboretum. No rain this time, and just enough cloud cover. Zach plays hockey & is quite good! I asked him if he likes to watch hockey, but he actually would rather play.
We probably spent a good 2 hours walking around the park. It was pretty busy with the Dallas Blooms going on, but most people were very considerate about not walking into the shots. In fact, an elderly woman actually stopped me from shooting and wanted to take a picture of me with Zach.
